Red Caboose Centerbeam truck corrections

While checking my rolling stock for needed updates (car weight, metal wheels, ride height, body mount couplers, coupler height) I stopped at a Red Caboose Centerbeam.

Als ich meine Rollmaterial nach notwenidgen Verbesserungen überprüft habe (Bodymount-Kupplungen, Metallachsen, Wagengewicht, Kupplungshöhe, Wagenkastenhöhe), kam mir bei einem Red Caboose Centerbeam etwas komisch vor.

In the picture that I took during our Canada trip back in 2014, you can see that the trucks of the Centerbeam are farer at the ends of the car. So I searched the internet and confirm that the truck positions on this car are wrong.

Auf dem Urlaubsfoto aus 2014 kann man gut erkennen, dass die Drehgestelle am Centerbeam deutlich weiter außen liegen als beim modell.

I removed the metal frame from the plastic and cut both bearings straight.

Der Wagenboden wurde vom Kunststoffaufbau gelößt und die Drehgestelllager abgesägt.

I put some UHU two phase power glue on both materials (plastic and metal).

Beide Materialen wurden mit UHU Kraftkleber bestrichen.

The bearings were realigned at the first small bolster according to prototype pictures. While glueing I also attached some MTL 1015 modymount couplers.

Die Drehgestelllager wurde dann auf Höhe der ersten Strebe entsprechend Vorbildfotos angeklebt. Da der Kleber grade offen war, wurden auch bodymount Kupplungen von MTL Typ 1015 angebracht.

The result with Exactrail Trucks and 36" Wheels.

The ride height was a little bit too high, so I replaced the trucks with BLMA 100ton ASF Trauck with BLMA 36" metal wheels.

Die Wagenhöhe war noch etwas zu hoch, daher habe ich die Drehgetselle durch BLMA 100t ASF ausgetauscht (auch mit BLMA 36" Radsätzen).

Rolling Stock Greenbrier leasing woodchip Gondolas ex GN

Um die Greenbrier Leasing Woodchip Gondolas zu kreieren habe ich erst mal den "Neuzustand" bei der GN in big sky blue hergestellt.

To build my GBRX ex GN woodchip gondolas it was nceessary to paint the cars in GN big sky blue and apply some decals.

Um meinen Bestand an Woodchip Gondolas zu erweitern hatte ich drei SOUTHERN Woodchip gondolas gekauft. Die Southern war natürlich nicht in Kalifornien aktiv, also war von anfang an klar, dass diese Wagen umlackiert werden müssen. Da ich beriets zwei Wagen in Greenbrier Leasing geändert hatte (ein Northern Pacific und ein Burlington Northern) werdne die drei neuen Wagen nun aus dem Bestand der Great Northenr sein. Als erster Schritt wurden die Drehgestelle entfernt. Danach wurden die Wagen in Isopropanol gelegt und dann mit einem Wattepad unter mittlerem Druck abgerieben. Die Beschriftung ging restlos ab. Nachdem die Wagen unter Wasser abgespühlt wurden bildeten sich beim trocknen Restfarbrückstände. Diese lassen sich aber einfach abbürsten.

To have more woodchip gondolas for operation sessions I bought three deluxe innovations SOUTHERN woodchip gondolas. OK, the SOU never operted in California, so I had to repaint them. I already created two Greenbrier Leasing woodchip gondolas (one NP and one BN) so the three others should wear GBRX reporting marks, too. I decided to create GBRX cars from former Greath Northern stock. So the first step is so build three GN woodhcip cars. I started with removing the trucks. After that I gave the three cars an Isopropanol alcohol bath. After a few minutes I could easily remove the lettering with a soft cotton pad. After that I washed the car body with fresh water so the plasctics don't get damaged. While drying a soft patina of white plastic/colour rest appeared. It can easily be brushed away.

More woodchip gondolas

Morgen gehts los zum AmericaN Treffen in Lauffen am Neckar. Also wurde gestern nochmal Hand an die Module angelegt. Die Modulkästen wurden in RAL 1001 gestrichen. Es wurden alle Weichen nochmal geprüft. Mit meiner SSW GP40 in Rangierfahrt verschmutzte Gleisstellen gesucht und Entgleisungspunkte behoben. Harald hat es leider nicht geschafft den rotary dumper zu fertigen, also bleibt diese Modulstelle erst einmal in Sperrholzoptik.

Tomorrow I'll leave for the Fremo AmericaN meeting in Lauffen. So I optimized the modules yesterday. The modules were all painted in RAL 1001. All turn outs have been adjusted. I used a Geep 40 to search for dead spots on the rails. The rotary dumper was not produced yet, so I'll have a wooden undesigned ground on the module.

Nachdem ich geschätzte 100 Frachtzettel erstellt hatte, ging es dann wieder zum Rolling Stock.

After creating approx. 100 freigth car waybills and empty car orders I continued with the rolling stock.

Ich habe mir gestern mal den Tag Zeit genommen und diese BN Woodchip Gondola modernisiert. Der Wagen wurde von Burlington Northern auf die Leasingfirma Greenbrier umgestaltet.

N-Scale GP 60

Für den modernen Betriebszeitraum, habe ich mir eine GP60 von Walthers Proto N in DRGW Lackierung besorgt. Das Modell ist sehr schön bedruckt, ist sehr leise und hervorragende Langsamfahreigenschaften. Mir kam die Lok recht schwer vor und habe sie gewogen. Hier das ergebnis:

For modern era switching I needed some modern UP Geep so I ordered a Walthers Proto N GP60 in DRGW paint scheme. The loco ist printed very fine, it is so silent and drives very slow - perfect for y local with switching duties. I'll patch the loco to UP 1901. The loco seemed to be quiet heavy for a geep so I took a balance:

Das einzige Manko ist leider die sehr blaue Beleuchtung. Es sind neben der Front- und Heckleuchte auch die Numberboards und das Führerhaus beleuchtet.

The only bad thing about this model is the blue illumination. In addidtion the the front and backligth the numberboards and the cab are illuminated, too.

McCloud Rolling Stock

Dank meiner neuen Revell Airbrush ging es ans Lackieren der Gebäude und vor allem des rollenden Materials. Ich habe die beiden SD38 (MR38 und MR36) neu lackiert, versiegelt und mit decals versehen. Als ich dabei war habe ich mich auch direkt über meine MP15 (MR52) hergemacht.

With my new airbrush I have worked on the buildings and the rolling stock. My two SD38 were repainted because the first try with the china brush was not really any good. With the new air brush by Revell I painted the locos in brown and black und finihsed them glossy for applying decals.While I was painting I stripped my Texas Terminal Atlas MP15DC an painted it in McCloud 90's paint scheme.

I used Microscale's Wester Pacific orange decals for the diesel front and back. The green MP15 trucks are painted in ATSF silver to match the SD38s.

N-Scale Golden West Service Cars

Nachdem die Wagen trocken waren, wurden sie mit glänzend lackiert damit die Decals nicht zu sehr durch ihre glänzende Oberfläche auffallen.

After the blue colour was dry I applied a glossy finish to match the cars background to the decal background.

 

Mit ruhiger Hand wurde eine erste Wagenseite mit Decals ausgestattet, es fehlen noch 4 Stk, für die ich erst eine Lupe brauche!

Spending much time and working slowly I placed the first decals on the covered hopper. On this side there are only 4 decals missing, but they are so small that I need a magnifier :)

Golden West Service Cars - Part 1

Da mein Modellzeitraum 1990+ ist und ich mich in Kalifornien bewege dürfen ein paar Golden West Service Wagen aus dem SP rebuild&lease program nicht fehlen. Als Basis dienen eine Deluxe Innovations Woodchip Gondola und zwei Intermountain 4750cft covered hopper.

I'll need a gts100ton Woodchip Gondola (Deluxe Innovations) and two 4750 cubic ft covered hoppers (Intermountain). Let's go :)

Die Wagen erhielten einen mehrfachen weißen Anstrich, anschließen kam der dunkele Blauton.

After some layers of reefer white, as a basic coat, the cars are all airbrushed in a dark royal blue.
When the decals arrive I'll apply them and start weathering. 

Rolling Stock McCloud River Railroad

Wer sich eine Shortline aussucht, der muss leider auch beim rollenden Material Hand anlegen...

I ordered some microscale decals to see how to work with them.

Aus grünen Fox Valley FMC-Wagen wurden erstmal weiße.

A green Fox Valley boxcar was painted white.

Dann wurde abgeklebt. Danke an Axel für die Tipps.

Anschließend der passende braune Farbton (4ml Roofbrown, 2ml boxcar red und 2 ml Wasser) angemischt und verarbeitet.

I used my mixed Floquil brown colours  (4ml Roofbrown, 2ml boxcar red and 2 ml Water)for the locomotives and the box cars.

Der Bachmann McCloud Wagen wurde direkt im Farbton mit angepasst.

I got an Bachmann MCR boxcar in the bay, so I matched the brown colour to the other cars.

Die Dächer wurden in Aluminum geairbrushed und es wurden erste Alterungseffekte ausprobiert.

The roofs were painted in aluminium.

Die drehgestelle und der Boden wurden direkt im einem Rutsch mit lackiert. Die Decals waren eine echte Herausvorderung!

MCR 36 & MCR 36 - EMD SD 38

Da zur McCloud ja auch die passenden Lokomotiven gehören ist der nächste Schritt gemacht. Zwei Kato SD40-2 der AT&SF kamen mit der Post zusammen mit zwei Dekoderplatinen. Die long Hood bestellte ich bei Mark4 in Neuseeland :) um die SD38 Dachpartie zu erhalten.

I want to run a McCloud River shortline layout so what to we need, maybe locos? I selected these two Kato SD40 to create some SD38 with hoods by Mark4Design.

Nachdem ich die Beschriftungen mit Isopropanol entfernen konnte wurde die Longhood getrennt. Als nächstes werden die Löcher für die Grab Irons geböhrt, falls diese irgendwann einmal aus den USA mit dem restlichen detailierungs Kram ankommen.
