Gebäude - Structures

Ich habe über die Weihnachtsfeiertag etwas ruhe gehabt und ein paar Gebäude gebaut. Da ich ja etwas moderner unterwegs bin, war das Backstein-Warehouse aus dem Walthers Bausatz einfach zu alt. Ich habe aus Evergreen Profilen ein neues Gebäude mit zwei Gleiszugängen gebaut. Fenster und TÜren fehlen noch.

While the christmas holidays I had some time to work on the structures. The Walthers papermill brick warehouse seemed to be to old and was not matching to my 90's layout. So I created a new building with Evergreen metal sidings #4526 (matching to the Walthers Kraft Mill). I added a second warehouse track and changed the build heigth a little bit. Windows and doors are still missing.

Ich fand die Walthers Kraft Mill sehr gelungen und habe diese Übernommen.

Das Papiermaschienengebäude schlißt sich direkt an das Lagerhaus an und besitzt eine zusätzliche entladestelle für Chemikalien. Fenster und Türen fehlen noch.

The machine house sits directly next to the warehouse. I added an extra unloading shed for additive bulk chemicals. Windows and doors are still missing.

Da das alte Backstein-Kohlekraftwerk ja nur noch als Backup dienen soll, wurde ein neuer Recovery Boiler gebaut (daneben schon mal die Andeutung des Rotary Kiln). Es fehlen noch Fenste rund Tore.

The old brick power station is today only used as backup for the new recovery boiler. Next to the boiler there is the first part of the rotary kiln. Windows and doors are still missing.

Zur Entladung der pulverförmigen Chemikalien wurde eine Entladestelle mit angeschlossenen Speichersilos aus Evergreen-Profilen, Energydrink-Dosen und Teilen aus Walthers-Bausätzen gebaut.

To unload bulk additive chemicals I built an unloading facility with storage silos from Evergreen metal sidings and energy drink cans. I added some parts from other walter's kits.

Das nächste Update kommt Januar 2013. Dann werde ich die Gebäude in dunklem CSX grau lackieren, die Sockel erhalten natürlich Betonfarbe.

The next update will be done in january. I'll paint the structures in a kind of dark CSX grey and of course concrete foundation.

Erste Gebäude - First buildings

Nachdem die Grundlagen (erste Verkabelung, Gleise legen, altern der Gleise, Probelauf) erbracht worden sind, kommen nun die ersten Gebäude aufs Modul. Ich habe mal das Dampfkraftwerk und die Kraft Mill aufgetsellt.Zudem eine Erste Version des aus Kunstoffstreifen gebauten Warehouse. Kleine Energydrink dosen haben eine sehr gute Größe für pulp tanks (müssen aber noch bearbeitet werden (oben, unten, Ständerwerk)

After finishing the basics (benchwork, trackwork, wiring, weathering) I placed my first buildings on the module. To get an impression how the structures will work together I placed the old boiler house, the kraft mill and the warehouse so see if it fits in the space. I will add some energy drink tins as pulp silos. They have to be modified but will be a great eyecatcher.

Die grünen Fenster aus dem Walthers Bausatz für das Kraftwerk mögen zwar auf einem Dampf-Layout gut aussehen, da ich westenlich moderner unterwegs bin, wurde sie in einem dunklen Anthrazit-Farbton lackiert. Das Kraftwerk ja nur noch ein Backup und ein Relikt aus aus vergangener Zeit.

The green Walthers power plant windows will match to a steam era layout but not to my moden times paper mill. So I painted the windows in an ligth black colour. This building will be heavyly weathered to match the mill.

Ich habe ein paar kleine Gebäude gebaut und mich dabei auf das saubere Arbeiten konzentriert. Um die Gleise schottern zu können, habe ich die Gleise mit dunklegrau / anthrazit Farbe gealtert.

Die an den gelöteten Schienenverbindungen fehlenden Schwellen werden noch aufgefüllt.

Gleise verlegt - track work finished

Ich habe mir am Wochenende mal Zeit genommen und die Gleisarbeiten beendet. Zu meinem Bedauern sind von den 20 flexgleisen nur noch 2 übrig!

Last weekend I spent some time finishing the trackwork. From the ordered 20 Atlas Code 55 flex tracks only two are left for the next projects (Yard extension or Burney Splice) :(

Gleisbau schreitet voran - trackwork continued

Nachdem die Schwellen aus Leiterplattenmaterial eingetroffen sind konnte ich gestern ein bisschen Zeit für das Verlegen der Gleise zur Recyclinganlage und der Warehoustracks erübrigen und habe dabei dann auch gleich das alte Kraftwerk mit angeshclossen. Es sind jetzt auch alle Löcher für den Storageyard gebohrt.

After the arrival of the PCB ties I continued laying tracks to the warehouse, the old boiler house and the recycling paper track. Just an hour so only a little progress...

Gleisarbeit fortgesetzt - Trackwork continued

Mit meiner neuen Gleissäge ging das Trennen der Gleise an den Segmentübergängen recht zügig voran. Um weiterbauen zu können benötige ich leider erst noch ein paar neue Leiterplatten-Schwellen.

I'm using my new track saw now to divide the tracks on module transitions.This makes the work process much faster. To continue I have to wait for more PCB ties...

Eine erste Testfahrt mit einer Atlas MP15dc ging überraschend flüssig und zeigte nur an einem (!) Gleis an einem Segmentübergang Nachbesserungsbedarf.

The very first test ride with an Atlas MP15dc showed a very good track perfromance. There was only one module transition that needed some improvement.

 

Da ich werder eine Digitalzentrale noch einen Handregler besitzte, wurde die Jungfernfahrt mit DecoderPro3 und dem SPROG3 als Zentrale und JMRI auf meinem Galaxy S3 als Handregeler durchgeführt.

Because I don't have any DCC Hardware, I used my laptop running DecorderPro3 and a SPROG3 as my command station. I used my smartphone as a JMRI wireless throttle.

Loconet - Fascia Boards

Gestern trafen die Loconet-Platinen von HOfine ein. Also wurden die RJ12 Buchsen eingeklebt um den Fremobelastungen dauerhaft Stand halten zu können. Bei der gelegenheit habe ich auch die AmericaN-Platinen für McCloud bestückt.

Yesterday the loconet fascia boards by HOfine arrived. I glued all Sockets to the boards to make them more reliabale in the rough FREMO usage. The wider boards are for the paper mill - the squares for the saw mill.

N-Scale Golden West Service Cars

Nachdem die Wagen trocken waren, wurden sie mit glänzend lackiert damit die Decals nicht zu sehr durch ihre glänzende Oberfläche auffallen.

After the blue colour was dry I applied a glossy finish to match the cars background to the decal background.

 

Mit ruhiger Hand wurde eine erste Wagenseite mit Decals ausgestattet, es fehlen noch 4 Stk, für die ich erst eine Lupe brauche!

Spending much time and working slowly I placed the first decals on the covered hopper. On this side there are only 4 decals missing, but they are so small that I need a magnifier :)

N-Scale Burney Paper Mill first tracks on the layout

Auch wenn es nach wenig aussieht, aber die ersten drei Segmente sind fertig. Durch die Zahlreichen Segmentübergänge, zieht sich das verlegen doch sehr :( Nicht zu vergessen die diversen Stromzuführungen an den separaten Gleisen.

It took me Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening to put the Atlas Code55 tracks on the first three modules. All module track connections are done with PCB ties to have a fixed mounting point and to prevent damage while the transport to a Fremo meeting.

Golden West Service Cars - Part 1

Da mein Modellzeitraum 1990+ ist und ich mich in Kalifornien bewege dürfen ein paar Golden West Service Wagen aus dem SP rebuild&lease program nicht fehlen. Als Basis dienen eine Deluxe Innovations Woodchip Gondola und zwei Intermountain 4750cft covered hopper.

I'm modeling California in the 1990's so what about some Golden West Service Cars for my layout?

I'll need a gts100ton Woodchip Gondola (Deluxe Innovations) and two 4750 cubic ft covered hoppers (Intermountain). Let's go :)

Die Wagen erhielten einen mehrfachen weißen Anstrich, anschließen kam der dunkele Blauton.

After some layers of reefer white, as a basic coat, the cars are all airbrushed in a dark royal blue.
When the decals arrive I'll apply them and start weathering.
