New buldings

Es sind auch mal wieder ein paar Bausätze eingetroffen. Aus einem Teil eines Cornerstone Bausatzes wird ein Gebäude zum entladen von Pulverförmigen Chemikalien in Säcken oder Fässern. Die restlichen Wände werden für eine alte Lagerhalle verwendet.

Some new building kits arrived. I'll build an unloading facility for bulk chemicals packed in barrels or bags. The unsed walls will be used for a background ware house.

 

Ich habe die Maschinenhalle mit den Rolltoren für die Kaolinanlieferung und die Maschinenersatzteilversorgung aus Pappe gebaut. Diese Gebäude entstehen dann später aus Evergreen Platten.

I built these cardboard mock ups to see how the new paper machine building with the kaolin track and the machine supply track look like. I will build this structure with evergreen styrene walls.

N-Scale Rotary Dumper

Da es ja in Spur N leider einen Rotary Dumper zu kaufen gibt, habe ich mir eine CAD-Zeichnung erstellt und diese dann zum lasern gegeben. Nach langer Wartezeit sind die gelasterten Teile endlich angekomen und können montiert werden. Falls jemand auch interesse an diesem Bausatz hat oder am fertigen Modell, dann einfach eine Mail schreiben.

There is no n scale rotary dumper modell. So I drew my own n scale roatary dumper as CAD and sent it to a laser wood cutting company to get my building. The parts arrived a few days ago. If anybody is interested in this modell please write me an email.

Pulp silos, pump house & mill progress

An diesem Wochenende hatte ich zum Glück ein wenig mehr Zeit etwas an der Moba zu werkeln.

This weekend I was happy to have more time to work on the layout.

 Die große Masschinenhalle wurde aus stablitätsgründen mit einer Bodenplatte versehen. So konnte dann auch die Rückwand an der Modulkante ausgerichtet werden. Auf das überstehende Stück Kunstoff wird betonierte Straße aufgeklebt.

The big machine house received a solid styrene basement. With this stabilization I could align the back wall to the module corner. The white styrene rigth in front auf the machine house will be used as a concrete road.

Das Versandlager erhielt ebenfalls eine Kunstoffgrundplatte Es wurden alle Lüftungselemente auf dem Dach mit Edelstahl Farbe lackiert, ebenfalls die Rolltore. Die Fenster wurden mit trüben Kunststoffplatten eingebracht.

Nur google weiss warum dieses Bild auf dem Kopf dargetsellt wird... Ich habe endlich das main pulp silo mit direkt angeschlossenem pump house gebaut. Auf der rechten Seite setzten sich die Rohre bis zum machine house, über Traversen, fort.

Beim recycling paper terminal wurden die Rolltore und Dachaufbauten ebenfalls in Edelstahlfarbe lackiert. Das Gebäude erhielt auch eine Bodenplatte.

 Nachdem ein weiteres Modul mit Moosgummi beklebt und braun grundiert wurde, habe ich wieder Straßenabschnitte aufgeklebt.

After I've glued some foam rubber on the module I painted it in earth brown. On some placed I added the printed concrete raods.

 Das Chemikalienverladeterminal erhielt einen weitere dünne Farbschicht. Zudem wurde ein Stück Straße ergänzt.

 Als ich die Farbe grade eh offen hatte habe ich diem Kühlsegment ebendfalls eine Edelstahloptik verpasst..

The stainless steel paint was still on the brush so I painted this cooling unit in this look, too.

Außerdem ist mein SPROG3 endlich wieder zurück und wurde getetset. In verbindung mit dem neuen Netzteil mit softstart läuft es (bisher).

Additive Bulk Chemiclas Unloading Structuere and Silo

Endlich ging es mal wieder weiter auf dem Dachboden. Die große Maschinenhalle hat endlich einen festen Boden bekommen und kann jetzt weiter bearbeitet werden. Bilder kommen im nächsten Post.

Yesterday I had some time to continue working on my layout. The large main machine building got a solid styrene basement so that I can continue detailing this structure. Pictures will be shown in the next post.

Damit das Erscheinungsbild des Papierwerks auch einigermaßen realistisch wirkt, habe ich die Feststoffchemikalien-Entladeanlage bearbeitet. Die Silos erhielten mit der airbrush einen Beton-Farbton. Alle aufgesetzten Details wurden dann mit einen 0,2er Pinsel in der Farbe Edelstahl angemalt. Als ich schon mal dabei war wurde der Steigkanal und der Verschlag gleich mit bemalt. Wenn ich es übers Herz bringen kann wird das Gebäude noch schön verwittert.

To create a realisitc look I airbrushed the silos in concrete color. Then I painted all roof details and the shed in stainless steel with a 0,2mm brush. I will add some weathering after improving my skills.

Western Mill View & GP60 UP1901

Für meine Region im schönen Kalifornien brauchte es natürlich auch zeitgemäße Loks welche das Papierwerk als Local bedienen. Ich habe mir die UP1901 (ex DRGW) ausgesucht und gepatched.

Um etwas mehr Stimmung auf die triste Sperrholzwüste zu bringen habe ich angefangen das Modul erstmal in einem dunkelbraunen Erdton zu streichen. Auf der rechten Seite wurde das Gelände leicht erhöht und ein paar Bäume "gepflanzt".

To turn the module from a wooden box with rails to a modular model railroad I painted the ground in a dark earth brown colour. On the rigth side a added a smooth hill with some trees.

Die Straße zwischen Rohrsystem und Entladestation wird natürlich noch fortgesetzt. Sobald die bluepoints eintreffen und montiert sind, werde ich die Verkabelung abschließen und dann die Gleise einschottern.

The road between the piping system and the unloading dock will be coninued to the left corner of the module. The tracks will be ballasted after the bluepoints have arrived an all electrics are done.

Liquid chemicals distribution center

Ich habe nun endlich die Verteilung der flüssigen Chemikalien gebaut. Das Gebäude ist zwar nur angedeutet aber wirkt auf Augenhöhe (fast) perfekt.

Ich habe für die verschiedenen Chemikalien verschiedene Tankformen und Materialien gewählt. Das Gebäude wird nur durch seine Rückwand angedeutet.

Es gab leider nur wenig fortschritt in der letzten Woche. Die Pulver- und Granulatentladung hatte sich leider durch temperaturunterschiede verzogen und wurde ersetzt.

Only little progress this week. The bulk additive unloading shed cause structural problem after a rough temperature change so I replaced it with a walthers kit.

Mill progress

Nachdem mal wieder ein frischer Bausatz eingetrudelt ist konnte ich endlich wieder etwas weiter bauen. Ich habe etwas umdisponiert. Aus der prelubrication mill wird nun die Krfat mill. Hierzu wurden ein Abgassystem mit Filtern aufgesetzt. Aus der alten Kraft mill wurde jetzt der recovery boiler.

Just after some ne kits arrived I could continue building th emain silo with ist conveyor belts. I made a small change in my mill buildings. I removed the kraft mills stacks and tranferred it into a recovery boiler. I added some stacks and an air pollution control system to the prelubrication mill and so changed it into a kraft mill.

 

Mit 8 einzlenen Förderbändern ist das Woodchip-Versorgunngssystem fertig.

Chemical structures

Es ist wieder Montag. Bis die Bauteile für das main silo eintreffen habe ich mich mal an die Chemikalienverteilung gemacht. Da ja diverse verschiedene Chemikalien per Eisenbahnwagen, als auch per LKW eintreffen, wird ein raffiniertes System zu Verteilung in die einzelnen Tanks benötigt. Hierzu wurde ein Walthers kit als Grundlage verwendet.

Another Monday. Until the missing parts for the main silo arrive, I started building a chemicals distribution system. Chemicals arrive in trucks and tank cars. The distribution piping connect the different storage tanks with the mill buildings and the dock.

Hier werden die Tanks durch Begälter angedeutet. Diese werden aber noch durch passendere Tanks ersetzt.

I build an exhaust gas control system from some left over parts. This is not finished yet and will be moved to another part of the building.

main woodchip silo

In letzter Zeit war es etwas ruhig im Blog, was sich nun wieder ändert :) Ich hatte viel zu tun und es blieb wenig Zeit fürs Hobby, leider war ich auch kurz krank. Naja frisch ans Werk. Neben einigen Lackierarbeiten habe ich angefangen das main woodchip silo zu bauen. Es besteht aus zwei großen Betonsilos mit einem aufgesetzten Verschlag.

It was a bit quiet in my blog the last days. I had much of work to do and was even ill. But that'll change :) I started building the main woodchip silo. Its based on two walthers western coal loader kits. The second kit hasn't arrived yet, but I couldn't wait to start.

The left belt conveyor transports the woodchips from the pile and via underground from the rotary dumper into the main woodchip silo.

 Die Öffungen für die Förderbänder fehlen noch, sind aber teilweise schon angezeichnet.

Tank car loading dock continued

Die erste Stellprobe hat mich ermutigt weiter an den Details zu arbeiten. Es wurden Leiter, Geländer und Stahlabspannungen, sowie Senksteige ergänzt. Das Ganze Gebäude erhält dann eine witterungsbeständige Edelstahloptik. Es Fehlen noch die Rohersysteme und eine kleine Rampe für die Trucks.

The first impression of the tank car loading dock pushed me to continue with this structure. I added handrails, ladders, cables and platforms. The structure will be painted in stainless steel. Some pipes are still missing and a small ramp for the trucks.

Leider ist es auf the dachboden zu dunkel für ein paar gut uaflösende Fotos, mit Blitz ist alles nur weiss.

It's to dark on the atic to take some good pictures. Using the flash just creates a white winter wonderland with all theses non painted buildings ;)

Tank car unloading dock

Wo ich ja grade in einer kreativen Phase bin und der debarker gut gelungen ist, mach ich mich direkt ans nächste Gebäude. Hierbei handelt es sich um eine Tankwagen-Be- und Entladung, welche auch die LKWs abfertigen kann. Als Basis habe ich mal wieder die google-Suche benutzt und eine recht simple Metallkonstruktion gefunden, welche im Osten der USA wohl weit verbreitet zu sein scheint. Hier mal ein paar Schnappschüsss des Abends.

The good results in building the debarker pushed me to build the tank car loading and unloading dock. I searched the internet for prototype pictures and found an easy tu build (eastern US) facility that can handle tank cars and also trucks.

 Es fehlen noch Geländer, Leiter, die Absturzsicherung und Rohrleitungssysteme aber ein erste Stelltest musste sein.

Handrails, ladders, pipes and safety installations are still missing but there's always time for a sneak peek.

Log debarker - Log chipper

Es gibt leider weder von Walthers noch von einem anderen Anbieter einen log debarker in n-scale. Also blieb als einzige Alternative der Selbstbau. Ich habe mir einige Bilder aus dem Internet besorgt und mich für eine 4 motorige variante mit drei Sektionen entschieden. An den debarker schließt sich auf der einen Seite direkt ein Förderturm mit dem Hauptförderband an, auf der anderen Seite die Holzzufuhr aus Flachwagen.

I've been searching for a long time for an n-scale log debarker but not even Walthers lists one. OK there is their HO-scale version, but nothing in n-scale. So I searched the internet for some debarker pictures and the proportions of the building. I chose a 4 motor 3 chamber type and built it from scratch. On the left side I added a small conveyor building, on the other side there is the underground belt conveyor for the incoming logs from the bulkhead flats. The conveyor belt system will go from the debarker to the main woodchip silo to the prelubrication mill.

Fenster und Türen, Dachdetails und das Förderband fehlen noch am Förderturm. Ich habe auch die vier Motoren nachgebildet, ich werde später nochmal ein Detailfoto ergänzen.

Versandlager - Paper warehouse and shipping

Sonntag Abend habe ich mir etwas Zeit genommen das Versandlager weiter zu bearbeiten. Neben Rolltoren, Türen, Treppen und Vordach, habe ich auch das Dach gestaltet. Es gibt Be- und Entlüftungsaufbauten, einen Dachzugang und eine Klimaanlage. Das Dacht selbst wurde mit 0,1mm anthrazit farbenen Dekosand bestreut.

Sunday evening I spent some time in detailing my warehouse and shipping center. I added some details like doors, stairs and a roof access. Also I added roof details from the walthers paper mill kit to my warehouse. On the roof I distributed some anthracite coloured 0,1mm sand.

Recycling Paper Terminal and Cooling Tower

Ich konnte im Netz ein Luftbild des Papierwerks in West Point, VA finden, auf dem die Hauptkühlanlage zu sehen ist. Also habe ich mich an diesem Gebäude orientiert und eine Kohle-Entladeeinrichtung und die Kühlfunktion kombiniert, dafür konnte ich das Backsteinkraftwerk entfernen.

I found a picture of the paper mill in West Point, VA taken from an airplane in google. The picture shows the riverside of the mill and the main cooling structures. So I removed the brick power station and scratch built a combined coal unloading terminal and main cooling tower.

The open walls of the building will be closed with mesh wire, near to the prototype.

Das Recycling Terminal wurde um Andockschürzen für die boxcars erweitert. Zudem wurden auf der östlichen Seite ein Podest für die LKW-Entladung, sowie ein Dacht ergänzt.

The recycling paper terminal was updated with rubber curtains for the boxcars to protect der paper from intruding water. On the east side of the building I added a loading dock and a roof.

 Es werden noch Dach Details benötigt, Farbe und Papier.

Gebäude - More structures

In meinem Weihnachtsurlaub hatte ihc ein bisschen Zeit weiter an den Gebäude zu bauen und diese dann auch in mein CALPA Farbscheme zu airbrushen. Ich habe hierbei als Grundfarbe den dunkeln Grauton PollyScale CSX grey verwendet.

In my christmas holidays I spent some time building more structures and painting. I decided to choose Polly Scale CSX-Grey as my main colour for this proto-freelanced paper mill.

Here are some new pictures:

Flüssigproduktbe- und entladung (3 Ladepunkte), Ich habe mal ein paar niedrige aber breite formen als Tanks gewählt.

Liquid additive loading/unloading facility (3 spots), I selected narrow but wide forms as tanks.

Feststoffentladung (3 Ladepunkte), Schon jetzt zeigen sich an hohen schmalen Speichersilos wie gut das dunkle anthrazit grau der Silos (wird evtl noch zement) zu den grauen Wänden und dem Aluminium Dach passen.

An der prelubraction mill habe Fenster und Tore eingefügt. Zudem wurde der rotary kiln gebaut und auch gleich farbig stimmig lackiert.

I added windows and a gate to the prelubrication mill. Also I added the rotary kiln in between the prelubrication mill and the kraft mill.

Die kraft mill wurde nun doch farblich erst einmal an die retslichen Gebäude angepasst.

The kraft mill building was also painted to match the other structures.

Das Maschinenhaus und das Lagerhaus wurden ebenfalls farblich stimmig angepasst.

The machine house and the warehouse received the grey paint. The bulk unloading shed was added.

Zwischen Papiermelangesilos und dem Versandlagerhaus steht das Recylingterminal für eingehendes Altpapier. Das Gebäude verfügt über drei Ladestellen für boxcars im 50ft Abstand und eine entlademöglichkeit für LKWs.

Next to the warehouse and the pulp and water silos there is the recycling terminal. It features 3 50ft boxcar spots and a truck bay.

Hier sieht man die rechte Seite des Recylingterminals. Vor dem großen Rolltor wird es ein Podest geben, an welches die Hänger entladen werden können. Im Hinttergrund werden große Wassertanks angedeutet.
