Lookout junction - more progress

In Lookout junction wurde das westliche Gleis noch einmal mit diversen Streumaterial nachbearbeitet, um zu zeigen dass dieses Gleis ehr selten benutzt wird.

In Lookout  Junction I applied another layout of different turfs to the narrow western track of the siding. This should bring the effect of an nearly "unused" track.

Auch hier wurden die Gleise mit dem Woodland-Gleis-Rost-Stif behandelt.

Also in Lookout Junction the rails are now weathred with the woodland rust painter.

Zudem kam die erste welle dunkler Büsche und Sträucher hinzu.

I applied some new bushes to make th emodule look more realisitc... More details will be added.

Lookout Junction scenery

Ich habe schon vor ein paar Wochen mit der Landschaftsgetsaltung von Lookout junction weitergemacht. Leider bin ihc bishe rnoch nicht dazu gekommen Bilder zu posten.

I worked on the Lookout Junction scenery a few weeks ago but I didn't had the time to upload some pictures.

Die bereits gealterten und geschotterten Gleise wurde abgeklebt.

I taped the yet weathered and ballasted tracks to prtotect them against green foam, foilage and turf.

Dann habe ich 6 verschiedene Grüntöne aus Streumaterial aufgebracht. Dieses wurde dann mit Wasser-Weissleim-Mischung lamieniert.

Then I applied 6 differnet ground turfs and glued it with a mixture of white glue and water.

Nachdem die Klebebänder entfernt wurden, sah das Ganze bei Tageslicht schon mehr nach Landscahft aus.

After I removed the tape the module surface looked more like something worth the work.

Nach dem Bäume aufkleben hier ein letztes Foto bei Tageslicht mit dem Abzweig zum Interchange-Gleis.

Lookout Junction progress

Seit dem Jahreswechsel konnte ich am Wochenende mal wieder ein wenig an den Modulen arbeiten. Neben Lookout Junction habe ich mich mal am altern von Wagen probiert - Dazu ein anderes mal mehr. Als erstes habe ich die Gleise mit dem Woodland-Gleismaler gerostet, was zu einem sehr schönen Ergebnis führte.

Since the turn of the the year this was the first weekend that I could spent a little time on my modules. Additionally to work on lookout junction I did my first weathering steps. But back at Lookout junction I weathered the rails with the woodland rust pen.

Mit der Heissklebepistole und Holzleim wurden die Geländestrukturen aufgeklebt. Ich habe eine Straße an das Siding herangeführt, um es bei Bedarf als Umschlagplatz und Betriebsstelle für zum Beispiel Gestein oder Holz nutzen zu können.

With the hot glue gun and wood glue I added basic terrain. I also added a road to use the siding as a transload for rocks or wood products if necessary and another operation spot is needed.

An den Modulrändern wurden Geländeerhöhungen aufgeleimt und anschließend verspachtelt. Mit der Elektrofeile wurde der Bahndamm abgeschrägt.

Terrain elevations were glued to the module borders and the gaps were filled with plaster. I also smoothed the track bed with an electronic file.

Es wurden auch segmentübergreifende Hügel aufgebracht, um den Modulübergang zu kaschieren.

Also segment transitions were covered with hills that are placed accross the segement border.

Die Kunststoffkanten wurden mit der Elektrofeile bearbeitet, um die scharfen Kanten zu glätten.

Also the sharp styrene edges were smoothed with the elctro file.

Die Landschaft erhielt dann ihr Grundgerüst aus mit Heisskleber befestigten Pappstreifen.

The landscape was formed with hot glued paper board stripes.

Entlang der main line ist die Landschaft seicht und nur leicht hügelig. Ich habe versucht den Übergang von Fremo AmericaN nach Fremo AmicaN-iNdustries möglichs unauffällig zu gestalten.

Along the main line there are only small hills. I tried to cover the transition from Fremo AmricaN Standard to Fremo AmericaN iNdustries Standard as unvisible as possible.

Im nächsten Schritt wurden die Pappkonstruktionen mit Gipsbinden überzogen.

In the next step the paper board basements were fortified with plaster bandages.

Die Gipsbinden ziehen sehr schnell an, daher ist Eile beim verarbeiten geboten. Ich schneide die Gipsbindne immer in ca. 20 cm lange Streifen, da die sich so am besten (überlappend) platzieren lassen.

The plaster bandages are drying very fast, so you have to hurry to handle them. I always cut the bandages into 20cm long stripes. This makes it easy to position them effectively with a small (or if needed wide) overlap.

Nachdem die Gipsbinden durchgetrocknet waren wurde die Moduloberfläche mit Gips überzogen. Der Gips sorgt für mehr Festigkeit. Ich habe hierfür Moltofil zu einer sehr zähen Masse angerührt, so ist das Aufbringen am einfachsten. Ich bringe den Gips nicht mit dem Spachtel auf, sondern nutze meine Finger (mit Kunststoffhandschuh). So lässt sich die Oberfläche sehr gefällig gestalten und reduziert das Schmirgeln mit Sandpapier.

After the plaster bandages dried I applied plaster to the surfce. I used Moltofil plaster and mixed it to a very stiff mass. I applied the plaster with my fingers (with medical gloves). This brings the best results and minimizes the sanding.

Nach dem Glätten mit Schirgelpapier wurde das Modul mit erdbraunem Buntlack überzogen.

After smoothing down the surface with sanding paper I painted the complete surface (exept the tracks) with earth brown colour.

Im nächsten Schritt werden die Gleise eingeschottert und der Boden begrünt.

In the next step the tracks will be ballasted and the ground gets some green.

Lookout Junction progress

Am Sonntag kam ich dazu die Verkabelung von Lookout Junction abzuschließen. Als das Modul auf dem Kopf lag, wurden direkt die Beine montiert. Die Weichen werden wie bei fast allen Modulen über blue points geschaltet. Es fehlen noch Stellhebel und Loconet Panels.

On Sunday I wired my Lookout Junction module including blue point turn out controls. While the module was head over on th eground I mounted the module legs. There are still missing loco net panels and turn out control rods, but testing is possible ;)

Lookout junction tracks divided

Nachdem wir wieder aus dem Urlaub zurück sind ging es heute ein bisschen mit den Modulen weiter. Da bisher sowohl bei der Paper Mill als auch bei Lookout Junction die Module durch die Leiterplattenschwellen fest verklebt waren ging es ans auftrennen, um die Module wieder seperieren zu können. Ich wollte erst ein mal bei Lookout junction mit den 0,3mm Trennscheiben üben, bevor es an BPM geht.

After we returned from our holidays I spent some time on my modules today. Well, the paper mill and lookout junction module are still glued together under the pcb ties. So it was to make the first step on dividing. I strted on a test piece of track first to get familar with the 0,3mm cutting disc. After some cuts I began to divide the Lookout junction module transitions.

Lookout Junction first steps

Als ich im Baumarkt das Holz für den storage yard geholt habe, habe ich auch direkt das Material für Lookout Junction schneiden lassen. Im Keller wurde dann im anschluss an den yard auch gleich LJ mitgebaut um nicht nochmal alle Werkzeug rausholen zu müssen :)

While I was in the home depot to get the wood for the storage yard I ordered the wood for lookout junction, too. I built the storage yard and lookout junction in one step to safe time and not to tidy up the basement for another time :)

Wie man auf dme Bildern schön sehen kannbesitzt das Modul nach AmericaN Norm eine 3mm hohen Bahndamm. Da dieser bei der iNdustries Norm entfällt wurden 3mm Kunststoffstreifen an den Übergängen zwischen den Normen aufgeklebt.

As you can see the AmericaN Standard track level is raised by 3mm for a roadbed. The iNdustries tracks are directly layed on the ground. So I bought some 3mm plastic stripes to get a smoother transition between the two standards.

Da die Kunststofftreifen flexibler als Metall sind aber fester als Holz habe ich den kompletten Bahndamm aus den Restkunststoffstrieben gelegt.

Well the plastic stribes are softer then metall but stronger then wood. I used the rest of the stripes to build the roadbed for the AmericaN track.

Nachdem die Kunststoffstreifen und etwas Kork fest klebten wurden die Leiterplattenschwellen an den Modulübergängen mit einem Zweikomponentenkleber aufgeklebt. Die Flexgleise wurden direkt auf Maß geschnitten.

After the glue under the plasctic stripes and some cork was dry I applied the pcb ties at every modul transition. I cut the flex tracks to dimensions.

Lookout Junction

Um im meinem Heimlayout die Module nach Fremo AmericaN iNdsutries Norm und das Sägewerk nach Fremo AmericaN Norm verbindne zu können habe ich ein Übergangsmodul entwickelt. Das Modul bietet zudem ein Interchange-Gleis. Auf diesem Gleise kann die Class 1 Gesellschaft Wagen abstellen, welche dann von der Shortline zu den Betriebsstellen gebracht wird. Im Austausch kann dann auch die Shortline Wagen abstellen, welche dann von der Class 1 abtransportiert werden.

To connect my Fremo AmericaN Standard modules (McCloud Sawmill and Shasta Transit) with the Fremo AmericaN iNdustries Standard I developed an interchange concept. While Fremo meetings this module can be used to connetc my AmericaN iNdustries modules to the main line.
