Pondosa continued

In Vorbereitung für das Fremo Treffen in Hamm wurden an Pondosa Beine befestigt und das Modul mit Lookout verbunden. Es fehlen nur noch Beine an Cayton und shasta transit.

In preparation for the FREMO meeting in Hamm (Germany) I added module legs to Pondosa. I connected the module with Lookout. Only two to go, just cayton and lookout junction need module legs.

Landscape

Am Wochenende war der Terminplan zwar sehr voll aber es haben sich hier und dort doch 5 Minuten gefunden um ein paar Bäume zu pflanzen. Die dunkel grünen Tannen kamen leide rnicht beflockt und hatten die Anmutung eines Müllsacks. Also wurden die Bäume mit dunkel grünem woodland turf bestreut.

We had so many dates this weekend that there were only a few minutes for the layout. The pines came without any turf or comparative. They looked like small garbage bag trees so I updated them with dark green woodland science turf.

Der Weissleim war noch nicht trocken aber ein Foto musste sein :) Die Holzstämme werden noch nach links und rechts erweitert.

The white glue wasn't dry but there is always time for a photo :) I'll put some more tree logs to the left and right, but these were all I had.

Auf Hobo Straight wurden auch die ersten Bäume gepflanzt. Ich muss erst noch weitere dunkle Bäume bauen bevor es hier weitergeht.

On Hobo Straight I planted the first trees. I have to build more dark green trees before I can continues.

Pondosa Terraforming

Nachdem wir am Sonntag Nachmittag wieder zurück waren ging es auf Pondosa ein bisschen weiter. Das Gelände wurde begrünt (gleiche Mischung wie Cayton). Als Nächster Schritt werden die Gleise geairbrushed und eingeschottert.

After we were back home on sunday evening I continued the work on the Pondosa module. I used the same turf mixed for Pondosa that I used on the Cayton module. The next step will be weathering the tracks and ballasting.

Pondosa - Next steps

Nachdem die ersten Papierschichten aus Zeitung und Küchenrolle durchgetrocknet ware habe ich eine Schicht aus überlappenden Gipsbandagen aufgelegt. Ränder und grobere Stellen an denen sich der Gips verschoben hatte wurden mit moltofil nachgearbeitet.

After the first paper layer was dry I put some plaster bandageson the hills to get more stability. Sometimes the plaster bandage borders are a little bit high - in this cases I used some extra plaster to smooth the surface.

Nach dem durchtrocknen wurde dann das ganze Gelände mit brauner Farbe gestrichen.

After the plaster was dry I painted the ground in earth brown.

Als ich schon mal im Keller war habe ich die Stämme von ein paar neuen Bäumen auch direkt braucht angestrichen.

Pondosa paperhills

Gestern hatte ich kurz Zeit die Grundschicht aus Zeitungspapier und/order Küchenrolle aufzutragen. Das Ganze wurde meit einem Weissleim-Wasser-Spüli-Gemischt getränkt und bietet wenn es trocken ist die Basis für die Gipsbinden.

Yesterday I just had an hour to work on the module. I used paper to created a base for the gypsum.

Pondosa hills

Am Wochenende war leider wenig Zeit zum basteln. Trotzdem wurde die Klebepistole rausgeholt.

This weekend there were just a few hours for building the module. Enough time to handle the hot glue gun.

Um die Übergänge zwischen den Module zu testen habe ich Cayton und Pondosa nebeneinander gelegt. Das Überfahren mit den Testloks war kaum sichtbar.

To check the module transitions I placed Cayton and Pondosa directly next to each other. Everything worked fine.

 Der Fahrzeugpark wurde um zwei non-Turbolader Loks ergänzt. Die UP GP38-2 hat schon die kurze Nummer und am Body den gelben Warnstreifen (früher rot) wie die GP60. Dieses Modell läuft ab Werk mit einem frischen Digitrax plug in decoder sehr ruhig und langsam.

I could add two new locos to my rooster. Both are Geep from Atlas. The UP GP38-2 weares the new yellow warning stripe (instead of the red) and has a very smooth slow running drive.

Die GMTX GP38 hat das bisher beste bedruckte Gehäuse meines Fuhrparks. Die schwarzen Drehgestelle passen sehr gut zum Rrest der Lok.

The GMTX GP38 has the sharpest looking print in my rooster. The black trucks are a perfect match for the blue/black/white paint.

Pondosa construction progress

Um Pondosa, CA zu bauen habe ich einen alten 62*30cm Kasten von BPM 1.0 verwendet. Um ein Spiegelmodul für Cayton zu bauen benötigte ich zwei kleine 30*32cm Module. Das Holz habe ich beim MB Baumarkt aus 10mm Pappel zurechtsägen lassen. Die Schnittkanten und Maße waren sehr gut. Beim 62cm Kasten wurde mit der Bandschleifmaschine eine glatte Oberfläche geschaffen.

To build Pondosa, CA I used an old 62*30cm module box from the first Burney Paper Mill. To create a mirror layout I needed to new small boxes. I went to  local hardware supply and ordered 10mm poplar wood. The cuts were very exact. Nice.

Nachdem die Modulekäste verklebt und verschraubt wurden, wurden die übergänge noch einmel mit dem Bandschleifer geglättet.

After the module boxes were glued and screwed I used a tool to smooth the transitions.

 Wie bei Cayton habe ich auch wieder direkt an den Atlas Weichen die Stromversorgungsdrähte angelötet. Die Gleise selbst werden auch noch mal an den Übergangs-Leiterplattenschwellen mit Strom versorgt.

I soldered the wires directly to the turn outs like in Cayton. The tracks are powere supplied at the module transition pcb ties, too.

Die Gleise werden mit einer dünnen Schicht Weissleim angeklebt. Zwischen den Gleisen sind Dehnungsfugen von ca. 1mm länge um Temperaturschwankungen auszugleichen.

The tracks were fixed with white glue. I let 1mm expansion joints for temperature variations.

Die Gleise sind verlegt und einer erste Testfahrt mit zwei 50ft boxcars mit bodymounted couplers wurde erfolgreich absolviert.

All tracks and turn outs are fixed and ready to use. A first test with two coupled 50ft boxcars with bodymounted couplers were done successfully.

Die bluepoint Weichestellvorrichtungen wurden direkt Montiert und justiert.

Auf dem Bild erkennt man deutlich den Unterschied zwischen alter Kastenkonstruktion und neuem Kasten.

Pondosa Layout

So lange ich für die Burney Paper Mill noch auf Gleise warte, habe ich vor aus einem Restmodule 30*60cm und zwei wieteren 32*30cm Module ein Spiegel-Modul zu Cayton zu bauen. Das Modul wird in Anlehnung an die McCloud River RR Pondosa heißen und ein Holzverladung und einen Abzweig besitzen.

I'm currently waiting for some turn outs and tracks for the new Burney Paper Mill. So I decided to build a mirror module for Cayton for an easy transport. The module name will be Pondosa, CA connected to the McCloud River RR. The tracks will feature a track split and a log loading.
