The relocation of the log track allowed more space for the truck route to the log yard. In front of the track there will be a log loader and a log pile.

Durch das Umlegen des Holzentladegleises wurde mehr Platz für die LKW geschaffen, um den Holzsammelplatz zu erreichen. Vor dem Gleis finden Entlademaschinen und ein Holzstoss Platz.

Some lighting posts arrived and I checked where I can install them.

The first row is installed for testing purposes.

Die erste Reihe Masten wurde zu Testzwecken eingesteckt.

The height of the lighting poles look quiet good at eye level.

Die höheren Master wirken passend zur Szene.

The module lost its straighteness in the last 2 years and wound up at up to 3%. This was fixed by cutting lines into the fascia and then add some wood to the inner side.

Das Modul konnte auch wieder gerichtet werden nachdem es sich in den letzten 2 Jahren stark verzogen hatte. Ein Schnitt schaffte Platz. Von innen wurde Holz vorgesetzt und von Außen verschraubt und verspachtelt. Die Rückwand musste auch getauscht werden.

So update on the Dam section. The Dam was 3D printed and is a nearly 1:1 representation of the hydro power generation of the paper mill.

Das Stauwerk entstand im 3D Druck und entspricht in seiner Abmessungen und Form nahezu dem Vorbild.

To be more prototypical I removed the second switch of the log track.

Die zweite Weiche des Holzanlieferungsgleises wurde entfernt, um näher ans Vorbild zu gelangen.

On the 3rd section the two #10L switches were replaced with on #10R and one #10L too look more prototypical. Changes are now complete and scenery can start.

Die beiden #10L Eingangsweichen haben mich schon immer gestört da das main track über ein abzweigendes Gleis führte. Dies wurde geändert indem eine #10R und eine #10L eingesetzt wurden. Der Zug kann nun gerade über das Hauptgleis fahren und muss nicht mehr den Abzweig nehmen.

An extension to the left side was needed to switch the paperdock prototypical. So I added another module.

I started ballasting the first section of the module using ASOA fine ballast according to the Fremo AmericaN standard. Tracks were weathered with woodlands rust painters. some random ties received different brown to grey nuances.

Der erste Modulkasten wurde geschottert. Es kam nach Fremo AmericaN Norm wieder der schöne feine Gleisschotter von ASOA zum Einsatz. Die Gleise wurden auf dem ganzen Modul mit the rust color weathering painters von woodland gealtert. 

Some first plaster was applied and feeder wires soldered to the tracks. Switches are manually controlled by blue points.

Die Verladefläche vorm Versandlager wurde aufgebracht. Zudem wurde die Gleise mit Strom versorgt und blue points als Stellmechanismen installiert.

New Project - Espanola Paper Mill, Ontario, Canada

After the birth of my second son I felt that I wanted to come back to the hobby that was suspended. Not with that much power compared to the time before the kids, but small projects that are possible to finish.

So after some research of other nice places on the QGRY network other than the QCY Henry IV yard in Quebec, the Kruger Paper Mill in TR and the VT warehouse I found nice videos of QGRY engines that are in service on the Huron Central. This railroad operating in Ontario frequently uses QGRY engines.

Along the line is the DOMTAR Paper Mill in Espanola Ontario.


After some research I write mails with guys who worked on the HCRY and also operated the switching jobs in the papaer mill.

The modules were built with 12mm multiplex headplates and 8mm sides. The Module features an 15° angle. Track is soley Atlas Code 55 with #10 switches in the main line, #7 for spurs and #5 for the sharp spots into the buildings.

The track plan was designed in Anyrail and then printed and cut out.

The main line is in the middle. The western track are switching spurs, while the right tracks are siding and log track,

Tracks are glued and soldered to the module.

Kruger Inc, Trois-Riviérès, Quebec

Die Kruger Inc Papierfabrik erhielt zunächst eine Grundierung. Anschließend wurde eine weiße Farbschicht aufgetragen. Nach dem Trocknen wurden Wandelemente entsprechend dem Vorbild abgeklebt und das Gebäude erhielt einen blauen Anstrich.

The Kruger Inc paper mill first received a nice coat of primer. I a second step the sidewall were painted white. After the paint was dry some panels were taped and the building was air brushed in the final blue color paint.

Das Dach wurd mit Moosgummi und verschiedenem 800-1200er Schmirgelpapier belegt.

The roof was made of modelers rubber and super fine sanding paper.

Um einen Übergang von Straßenmodul (Kruger Inc) auf Kurvenmodul zu erhalten habe ich mir die eine Szene aus Quebec gesucht  und mich daran orientiert.

To create a smooth conversation from street modules to non street curves I built a new module and chose a Quebec szene as prototypical orientation.

Auf einem 70cm langen ST-Modul wurde ein Gleis verlegt. Anschließend die Straße aus Woodland Scenics Gips gebaut und mit 1000er Schleifpapier bearbeitet.

I built a 70cm long ST module and put some Atlas code 55 track on it. Once the track was glues and soldered to the feeder wires I added the road using WS street material. When it was dry, I sanded it with very fine (1000) sanding paper to get a really nice surface.

Im nächsten Schritt wurde das Gleis geschottert, die Straße bemalt und die Straßenschulter ergänzt.

The next step was to add ballast and paint the raod with WS asphalt and add some concrete stamps using the swamp methode. Also the road shoulders were added.

Entsprechend dem Vorbild wurde ein Hochspannungsmast positioniert.

According to the prototpye a high voltage transmission pole was positioned.

Nach dem begrünen und dem Aubringen von statischen Gras (NOCH) sah die Szene schon sehr realisitsch aus.

After applying a base coat of turfs I added some static grass by NOCH with 1.5mm-2mm length.

Die Szene kommt dem Vorbild schon näher...

Als nächstes brauchte der Hintergrund noch Bäume und dichtes Grün. So wurden WS Super Trees mit NOCH Blättern beklebt.

The next step included making some WS super trees with NOCH leaves.

Um die grüne Wand dichter zu bekommen wurde Streumaterial auf Islandmoos aufgebracht.

To get a thicker green I put some turf on island moss.

Die grüne Wand hat sich schön ins Gesamtbild eingefügt.

The green wall blended in nicely.

Einige Bäume wurde mit NOCH Blättern weiter hervorgehoben.

Some Trees were highlighted with NOCh leaves.

Mit Straßenschildern usw. wirkt die Szene schön rund.

By adding more details like street signs and power poles the scene is really looking good.

Kein Bahnübergang ohne Zug :)
